Live Rituals — Performance & Installations

Live Rituals is the performance practice of Ant The Elder.

Through live actions, durational performances, installations and collaborative situations, the work explores ritual as an experience shaped by intention, presence, time and participation.

These projects often bring together elements of the wider practice, incorporating objects, symbolic imagery, bodily actions and material processes.

Each performance is developed in response to its conceptual framework and context, with the relationship between performer, audience and environment forming an important part of the work.

Some works are created for specific sites, institutions or events, while others emerge through ongoing artistic research and collaboration.

Performance commissions and collaborations

Ant welcomes enquiries from galleries, museums, festivals, independent curators and cultural organisations interested in performance commissions, installations, participatory projects and interdisciplinary collaborations.

Projects can be developed in response to particular spaces, themes and institutional contexts.

THE HERMIT

Durational ritual - 9 hours - October 19th 2025- Theatre Mitu, Brooklyn NY, USA

The Hermit is looking for truth. The Hermit is isolated but receives visitors.

To create a space where silence is grounding and breath is key to unlock the mark of (im)permanence. An exploration at the intersection of movement and stillness, the moment is set in flesh, the abstract breath is made analogue, the spirit is entering the tactile physical world. In isolation the Hermit allows for connection.

The hermit is an invitation to let go. It is an invitation to meditate, feel and transcend the body. The aim is to breath, and experience a moment of solace, bearing the reminder of such fleeting moment through the etching of the skin, revealing what was always there.

The Hermit is an experiential piece that invites the public to enter the temporary sanctuary, and foray into the inner sanctum.
